What is the science behind carbide plugs? What exactly does this accessory add to the dabbing experience?
Carbide Plugs are dabbing accessories that restrict airflow and trap heat on tubeless dab rigs and bangers. They allow concentrates to be vaporized at a lower temperature to preserve the quality and flavor of the concentrates.
Discovered in 2013, carb plugs are made from glass, quartz, and titanium. These materials allow the carb plug to withstand high temperatures during dabbing so it won’t break or melt during the dabbing process.
What are the different types of carb plugs?
Despite being aesthetically pleasing, carburetor plugs also come in different types that serve different purposes. The most common types are directional flow carburetor plugs, bubble carburetor plugs, and standard carburetor plugs.
Directional Flow Carburetor Plugs – This type of carb plug creates a seal on the banger style studs. A directional flow carburetor plug is equipped with a carb hole that allows for quicker air exhaust. Turning a directional flow carb plug will push the oil around the bucket walls to vaporize it at the base of the dab rig.
Bubble Carb – Cap For flat bangers, a bubble carb cap is one type you might want to use. They also push down the oils from the walls, but due to their shape, the user has more control of the direction the oil goes. The chase is easier as a bubble carb plug also has a stem that goes through the top to the base for air control.
Standard Carb Plug – The most basic of the three, Standard Carb Plugs provide the user with a plug and handle. They are usually made of titanium or quartz and are more functional than aesthetic.
What are water pipes?
Bongs are water pipes used to smoke weed. The term bong derives from the Thai word “baung” which refers to the bamboo pipes used to smoke weed in early times.
To easily remember what mini bongs are, keep in mind that they should always have four main parts: the water chamber, the neck, the lower stem and the herb bowl. As described in this article, bongs are simpler than dab rigs. They don’t need a bunch of accessories and detachable parts to work. With the 4 parts mentioned above, the bong works as intended.
The difference of using a hookah compared to a dry pipe or weed roll is its ability to filter impurities from the smoke. As the smoke passes through the inside of the bong, the water acts as a filter, cleaning the smoke. In return, the smoker can experience a softer hit compared to the dry, harsh feeling of smoking a dry pipe.
What are the different shapes of hookahs?
Bong shapes can be differentiated by the shape of their base. The most common bong shapes are the straight tube, beaker base, bubble base and percolator bong. There are 12 bong shapes in total but these 4 are the most common on the market today. You can see the other forms of bong shapes through this article we wrote about choosing the right bong.
There are different forms of bong not only for aesthetic reasons, but also for their function. For example, bubble bottom glass bongs are more stable compared to straight tube bongs and percolator bongs. The wide base found on a glass and bubble base bong allows glassblowers to build taller bongs because they are sure that they will be stable regardless of their height.
Aside from that, taller bongs with longer necks, like straight tube bongs and percolators, allow the smoke to travel in a straight path. This ensures that the flavor remains intact as it is inhaled by the smoker. A long, straight path also cools the smoke better allowing for a smoother hit that is less harsh on the smoker’s throat and mouth.
